Hello! ★ This is Nadia.

How are you, everyone? :)

It is December! 2021 will be over in another month.

It's been a year and a half since COVID attacked our life, we cant easily go abroad, cant meet people, and wondering when we can have it end.. , however as our own "me time" increased more than before, you stay home, think slowly, feel deeply that you have more power to identify what is important to your life.

To me, originally, because of my personality, I think it is useless to worry about what has happened, and I pursue the cause, but after reflecting on it or shedding tears, I do not look back and just look forward. And push forward. 

Since the time of life is finite, the "changeover switch" clicks quickly, and if you make a quick turn, then look for the excitement in front of yourself, not after, just keep walking towards front with positive mind.

Instead of trying to return the life style of "like before COVID", I would rather to be excited about the new world and challenges of what kind of challenges we can take in the world after COVID.

Tell me your plan about new challenge. 

The online lesson "NADIA ONLINE", which Nadia presides over, started in April 2020. I think it was a few days after the lockdown in Singapore was decided.

After switching online, it is like Draemon's "Anywhere Door", saying "Open the device to meet everyone" ♪ A global platform that transcends national borders has opened.

It's just innovation!

For about a year and a half from April 2020, I met many people there every month and many new dance works were born. Isn't it a good step forward with digital co-starring online through a work "Ranka" we made in May this year, is it? :)

And while we were fluttering with the COVID, we almost forgot! LOL... but, NADIA School is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. It's been 10 years since it started on December 1, 2011.

In the spring of 2011, NADIA started to move independently from one of the biggest Bellydance School in Singapore where she had been belonging as professional dancer long time.

2011 was the year of the Great East Japan Earthquake on 3.11, and I couldn't find the energy to justify the activity of dancing in a deep and dark atmosphere that was as sad as or even worse than the COVID disaster. It was a difficult time. I think there are many people who feel the same way.

Even so, the people I met at that time, blessed with connected ties, took a slow step (although I felt something like a wind blowing from behind and left it to the flow), December 1, 2011 On the day, we started a school in a wonderful area called Rochester in Singapore. The building was brand new, and was in a new studio with cardboard boxes, and at first it was a slow start with about 3 students.

At that time, the first student to join me, still continues to learn bellydance with me in the same attitude after a decade.

First of all, I am sure that it is the students who first hit the gates of the studio that motivated Nadia of 2011, when she was a little weak at that time.

I've never forgotten. :)

Now. Over the last 10 years, we have been blessed with many event appearances and opportunities to teach at overseas workshops, and the place of activity has expanded to the extent that we go with students to various parts of Asia for business trip performances. Well, finally the 10th anniversary concert is held! 

Then, COVID has arrived! lol

The commemorative concert scheduled for April 2020 has been postponed indefinitely.

But actually, I haven't given up.

If possible, I would like to have a revenge performance by 2022 or 2023. I already have a magnificent proposal in my head, and I can always give a presentation verbally lol.

I was blessed with new encounters online, so when the revenge performance is realized in Singapore, I will proceed with the planning so that all the members and friends of NADIA ONLINE who have overcome this COVID disaster can appear together with me. This is a promise! :)

I would like to hold competitions and workshops.

Please add this project to your dream list as one of the dreams that you want to realize in the next near future. It's not "like before COVID", but in "after COVID's a new way" !!

Although the introduction has been lengthened, December 2021 will mark the 10th anniversary of NADIA Bellydance Entertainment & School, Singapore. The school name will be changed to NADIA Orientaldance Arts, Singapore (NOA, Singapore).

From 2022, as a system that hybridizes with studio lessons centered on online lessons and allows students to take lessons economically, as before, both online and offline in a monthly subscription format. We will make it possible for you to take the course economically. 

In the future, we will also regularly organize special workshops that can be learned by professionals on the road.

Examples: Arabic, Arabic rhythm, maqam, folklore, anatomy, etc.

I wish we could have a wonderful community like an online university where you can learn everything about oriental dance. It's not just about dancing, it's something beyond that! I want to expand it towards next 10 years.

In addition, I would like to recruit people who can help with the establishment of instructor training courses, choreography courses, and event organization to grow the team. I would like to hear from you by e-mail separately, so please let mew know what you think.

December 2021 is the first step towards the next decade.

As a special project, we planned some fun events and workshops, like a festival held throughout the month.

The theme song is "Zeina Zeina", which was first choreographed and taught by Nadia for beginners at the beginning of the school's establishment in 2011. It will be a special month where you can learn all of the above in just one month! There is also video tutorial distribution! So you won't miss anything! :)

We invite 3 male guest lecturers whom Nadia respects as her mentor, to teach us a special workshop. We will learn from professionals in each field for 3 weeks!

① Arabic Music Rhythm Workshop II

His lecture was so well received last year that he will be back for Christmas again this year! This year, we would like to ask Mr. Takaseema, a darbuka player, to explain more deeply what we learned last year. We will introduce the top 10 most important rhythms that dancers should know, explain the rhythms that appear in the theme song "Zeina", and show them in darbuka.

② Arabic music scale "Maqam" course

In the first place, what is Maqam? If you are learning belly dance (oriental dance), do you have any questions like this? "I understand that Western music and Arabic music have different scales, but what's the difference?" "Why are you attracted to Arabic music?" Knowing about Maqam will give you the answer. Mr. Yoshiki Kato, an oud player, will explain while actually playing the oud.

③ Arabic lyrics course

Lyrics commentary that appears in the assignment song "Zeina". Once you understand the meaning of the lyrics, you will be able to dance while singing with your body and mind. A language professional, an Egyptian Arabic instructor living in Japan, and Mr. Ehab will carefully explain how to read Arabic lyrics, their origins, and the background of the song.

④ Explain the concept of "Tarab"

Explains the Tarab of the assignment song "Zeina" in combination with Arabic lyrics. In the first place, you will ask "What is Tarab?", And after understanding the concept, you will also be introduced to the famous Tarab songs along with "Zeina". By listening to his lecture, you may understand why you chose oriental dance from among the many dance genres, and why you were attracted to it.

⑤ Choreography of oriental dance

Nadia will instruct you to complete the choreography of the assignment song "Zeina" in all 3 sessions (3 weeks). The choreography is a new version in 2021. She has ideas for her group dance and images of costumes, so when a revenge performance in Singapore is realized in the future, she will perform live with her students to dance at the opening. We will dance at important milestone show, so why not warm it up together as a new memory song to create the next 10 years?

⑥ Basics of oriental dance

Whether you have no dance background or are new to exercising, you start by learning about your body. Using a bone model, a polite lecture on how to dance without getting hurt (do not let it happen!). First, warm your body, stretch, and then check the alignment. Based on the anatomy, we will do plenty of basic training for each part and lead you to a body that can dance comfortably. As you continue, your beauty posture will realize that it looks 5 years younger than you are for real age. Continuity is power. Let's start today!

⑦ Yoga for oriental dancers

Aiming to improve the strength of the entire leg and the stability of the trunk that dancers need, we are assembling an asana menu centered on the low range. In addition, through deep breathing and release of energy, we will find a way of expression and guide you to express yourself naturally. By checking the position of the spine many times and repeating breathing, the autonomic nerves are adjusted to achieve not only physical but also mental strength and stability. At the same time, aim for a beauty effect. After yoga, the swelling of your face will be removed and you will be able to meet yourself with a sharp and glossy skin.

⑧ Online Hafla "Velvet Room" - IGTV PROJECT

It was well received last year, so again! We will hold a secret Hafla. The video that everyone danced is directed and edited by NADIA, and released on a secret Instagram account that only members can enter. Show us your best dance of the year there. Watch the dances of your friends, get inspired, exchange comments, and interact online like a conversation in the dress room after Hafla ♪

⑨ Online flea market "BLOSSOM's CLOSET"

This year it will be held online for 3 weeks. From Nadia's closet, Nadia's favorite Bella, Anastasia, Polina costumes, Damuse lesson clothes, and accessories will be exhibited. A ZOOM link will be sent to the members-only chat at least 1 hour before the lesson date and time. Please enter from there. Participants can participate either on or off the video. You are free to join or leave during the lesson.

【Notes】

Please use the name notation on the ZOOM screen so that you can confirm it with yourself. The full name or dancer name may be used. For example, if it is written as "Mom of XX" (especially when the video is off), you will not be able to verify your identity, so you may be asked to leave in some cases. 【Lesson video】

The choreography tutorial video will be delivered to everyone once a week, separate from the online lessons. What you learn in the one-hour lesson of the week is condensed by picking points, and we will give you a separately shot and edited video of about 10 to 20 minutes. We carefully explain and produce so that those who are absent from the lesson can deepen their understanding.

As for the special WS, we will deliver the recorded one every week, so you will not miss it either! :)

Born in Giza, Egypt, now lives in Japan.

Graduated from Cairo University, completed a Master's degree in Osaka University.

He has been a lecturer at prestigious universities such as Cairo University, the University of Tokyo, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Waseda, and Sophia University, and currently presides over the "Arabic Ehab School". He has edited and published "Passport Japanese Arabic", "Basic Japanese Learning Dictionary Arabic Version", and many more.

In the class, Mr. Ehab not only translates the lyrics and teaches them, but also focuses on the songs, the outlook on the life of composers and singers, and the history in the Middle East including Egypt when they lived. He tells us more and more interesting stories about song's cultural background and how he actually felt as an Egyptian when he were a child.

It's hard to go on a trip because of the COVID, but while listening to his lecture, I feel like I'm experiencing a digital trip (time trip) to a foreign land, especially good old days of Egypt.

He is better at Japanese than Japanese, and not only is the explanation easy to understand, but the characters are very cute. There are many students who find the talk interesting and having fun!

Nadia bought the glasses because Mr Ehab looks good on them, so she wanted to imitate the fashion of glasses to look more intelligence!  :p

By the way, the song that you will learn with us is,

「El Touba」 - Every time, I say I regret loving you.

أنا كل ما أقول التوبة

"El Touba" is one of the masterpieces sung by Abdel Halim Hafez.



Personally speaking, when I think "Oh, I like this song", it's often a song by Abdel Halim Hafez. Other famous songs such as "Gabbar" and "Nebtidi Mnein El Hikaya" that you might have heard once while learning bellydance are also sung by him.





He is one of the four major stars who shined in the golden age of Arabic music, he was on a par with such stars like, Umm Kulthum, Mohammed Abdel Wahhab, Farida Atrash.





"El Touba" (official name: Ana Kull Maguul El Touba), which he sings, said, "I said I am not going to be in love with anyone anymore, but I am again in fall in love with you♪" !! It is such a song that sings.






Moreover, the lyrics use the Saidi dialect in some sentences, and it feels a bit rustic. The lyricist of this song, El Ab Nudy is from Saidi area which located at upper Egypt, so I think he was particular about Egyptianness on this lyrics.






However, the composer Balig Hamdi who composed the song to this lyrics was influenced by the West, and the playing method and melody line of the instrument that would have been quite novel at that time.


Because the song was released in a very modern way, there was a disagreement between the lyricist Nudy and the composer Hamdy, and after the release, there was a quarrel.




When a modern feeling influenced by the West suddenly comes into the traditional Egyptianness and the aesthetic sense of Arab music that has been preserved since ancient times, it is positively regarded as novel and interesting. Or do you take it negatively that you can't protect the old ones? It's easy for us to imagine how the pros and cons swirl among them.


How do you guys think about it?






Meanwhile, the popular singer Abdel Halim Hafez sang a big hit, and it is still known as one of the Arab music loved by many as a popular song when you bellydance.










Would you like to know the content of these lyrics, which are mixed with such a cute countryside odor?








Again, let's go back in time to Egypt in the 1960s when the song was released and listen to various historical and cultural stories while having Mr. Iherb explain the Arabic language for all of us.

The previous song, Ya Msafer Wahdak had a moist view of the world, so this time El Touba wants to dance with a cheerful feeling.

CHOREO CLASS  We are instructing NADIA choreographed works with the aim of completing one song in two months. We learn new choreography routines once a week and send you practical videos of the explanations as teaching materials. Even if there are weeks when you couldn't attend the lesson, you are still able to study with video so that all the students will be able to dance one song by the end of the two-month term.

ARABIC LYRICS CLASS

Summer special project! 90-minute special lesson is held every Wednesday. Let's study the lyrics of one song in all eight weeks. Also, as a special bonus, Mr Ehab would like to teach 4 Arabic letters each week in the lesson, and by the end of 8 weeks, we will conquer all 28 letters. Please prepare the writing utensils, notebooks, and materials to be sent and print out them.

There is also a movie to be sent to all participants for those who missed the class.

YOGA is the Sanskrit word for "connection" and refers to the state where the mind, body and soul are connected. It combines breathing, posture, and meditation to relieve tension in the body and mind, and stabilise and ease the mind.

Yoga poses which calls "Asanas" have the effect of correcting body distortions, improving flexibility and physical fitness, etc., but combining relaxed breathing and meditation enhances concentration and a gentle and stable mental state.

The effects of breathing on the body and mind are so deep. The breathing method, which is also the basis of yoga, increases vitality and concentration by controlling breathing, and connects the mind and body.

It also has the effect that oxygen is sent to each cell and activated from inside the body. By expanding and contracting muscles and deep breathing, the lymph flow and blood circulation are improved, and the internal organs are activated, your body refreshed and comfortable, but it also helps prevent skin aging.

By the end of each lesson, it is impressive that the participants' faces look so refresh and sharp.

It is also possible to teach the choreography brush-up that you are currently learning in the online lesson, as well as some advise about stage work for your upcoming performance! 【Offline class】

As of now, Singapore is in semi-lockdown and offline classes are cancelled. We will inform you on this page when it resumes.

【Others】

We use a veil for choreography. Also, please bring yoga mat, towel and water, as well asa a hip scarf to wrap around your waist. In the Arabic class, we will also hand out materials. If you can print it, please print it and prepare it. Materials will be sent by the day before the lesson. Please also bring your writing utensils.
