Last term, we presented a Japanese fusion piece for the first time in about three years, and deepened our expression with everyone. The new piece, "STORM" is not an easy choreography, but it became more and more fascinating with each practice of dance. We were so engrossed that the eight weeks flew by, don't we?
"STORM" is a special and beloved Japanese fusion piece following "SAKURA SAKURA". I hope you'll get completed the choreography and dance in various shows.

If you missed the term of our new work ""STORM", you can also learn the choreography through video lessons.
If you are interested, please contact us.

In addition, "SAKURA SAKURA" a representative Japanese fusion work choreographed by NADIA, will be choreographed in a workshop at the bellydance festival "RAKKAS ISTANBUL 2025" to be held in Turkey this summer. "SAKURA SAKURA" will cross the sea and head to Turkey!
Would you like to join us? If you are interested, please check the details. I will post an announcement poster.

Well, Nadia has tried to fuse oriental dance with "Japanese" (Japanese Oriental Fusion) many times in this decade, but there is a belief that she holds dear.
That is, to maintain a strong "form" (axis) while establishing one's own style. There is a word "unconventional", but it is a word that only works if there is a form, otherwise it will just be formless, so it is something to be careful of.
Nadia's style of dancing is "oriental" (raqs sharqi) bellydancing, so she will be conscious of not losing sight of its essence in her expressions.
★
So let's go back to the question of "what is oriental" ?
Modern bellydancing is called "RAQS SHARQI" (means "dance of the east" = "oriental dance"), while the traditional style of belly dancing is called "RAQS BALADI".
The "RAQS SHARQI" style was born in a nightclub in Cairo in the 1920s. In order to suit the tastes of the Western customers of nightclubs, the costumes were two-piece (bra and skirt), the dance style was made more flashy, and the performance was added to match the ideal orientalism seen by Westerners, which is the prototype of the modern belly dance we dance, "RAQS SHARQI". The use of veils was also influenced by Westerners.
In contrast, the traditional style of belly dance is called "RAQS BALADI" (means Egyptian dance), and the movements are delicate and a little plain? There is a somewhat earthy atmosphere. The costumes are baladi dresses that do not expose much skin, and the dance is small, about the size of a tatami mat, rather than using a large space. (On the contrary, this is very difficult). Compared to "RAQS SHARQI", which was performed from a Western perspective, "BALADI" is recognized as expressing Egypt itself without pandering to anyone.
In recent years, in the bellydance industry,"BALADI" has crossed the ocean and has been fused, giving birth to a new style. "Argentine Baladi" (Modern Baladi) is also trendy because it is stylish and beautiful. NADIA ONLINE has featured it several times and taught the choreography.
This time, I deliberately chose Egyptian Baladi because I wanted to dance to pure Egyptian music. (It feels a bit strange to add the word of "Egyptian" to Baladi though). Why not go back to the classic style and learn the origins of bellydancing for the first time in a while?
That is the theme of this term.
We will explain in an easy-to-understand way even for those who are new to bellydancing. For those of you who have experience, try sorting out all the Egyptian style questions you may have been too embarrassed to ask about and checking your answers in this term. For the audio, we have selected a short song, "BALADI YASMINA" less than 4 minutes long. It's a piece packed with Egyptian essence, so I think it will be a lot of fun to dance.
Please look forward to "BALADI YASMINA" to dance with us!
