【New Term Announcement】★ “MATSURI” with brand-new choreography! Belly Dancers’ Flea Market / Canada Workshop Details! and more.. Welcoming new students♩

When I dance “Japanese Oriental Fusion” I feel deeply saved.

The world that Japanese music—born in Japan—carries us into is always beautiful and gentle. It feels as though it is saying, “Welcome home”, my soul feels healed.

Perhaps when we dance, being fully ourselves (while stretching just a little to appear more beautiful), we are traveling back through our own roots. I believe that is what it means to “dance in our blood.”

There is a memorable line spoken by the protagonist in the film Kokuhō (National Treasure):

“I simply want to see the scenery…”

I understand those words so well.

When sound, space, and dance become one, there is a miraculous moment of energy. To exist within that scenery. For the sake of tasting that single instant, perhaps we devote our lives, practice every day, and continue refining our expression. I do, and so does everyone else.

What I value most when dancing “Japanese Oriental Fusion” is the Japanese sense of aesthetics and dignity.

For example:

◾︎ 𝗪𝗮𝗯𝗶-𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶 : The spirit of finding depth in simple, imperfect, and aged things
◾︎ 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 : A wistful aesthetic appreciation for fleeting, ever-changing things like cherry blossoms
◾︎ 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 : A refined, understated sexiness without pandering
◾︎ 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 : A sense of respect for others

etc..

I believe Japanese dancers likely share these same values when they dance.

And for dancers from outside Japan who choose to learn this style, perhaps they approach it the way we look toward distant lands along the Silk Road—Turkey, Egypt—with admiration and curiosity. If so, we must receive that interest sincerely and pass on our culture with honesty and integrity.

The Japanese aesthetic and sense of dignity, preserved over thousands of years, are treasures worthy of being considered intangible cultural heritage. We should carefully and respectfully incorporate them into our expression of “Japanese Oriental Fusion (JOF).”

Now, I have some news!

This May, for the first time in Canada, NADIA's  “Japanese Oriental Fusion” — JOF (Japanese Oriental Fusion) workshop and show will be hold. It is hosted by my beloved student Julie and her friends, members of NADIA ONLINE. I am truly honored and delighted to bring Japanese culture and belly dance technique to the other side of the world.

Details can be found on the Facebook event page Julie created. If anyone would like to come to Canada, please let me know—I will try to arrange opportunities such as an open stage performance.

I will be teaching three popular pieces — SAKURA SAKURA / CURFEW / STORM — touring Toronto, Quebec, and Montreal with workshops in each city. These cities are easily accessible from North America and Europe, so if you are interested, please come to Canada in early summer to dance, learn, and meet me! :)

And now, the announcement you’ve been waiting for: the new term!

As you may have guessed, I am completely immersed in JOF at the moment! ;) I want to pour this passion into my work and share it with you. So this term, we will continue dancing a fusion piece using a Japanese umbrella.

The music will be “MATSURI” from Kitaro’s album Kojiki, a beloved artist popular in Singapore and internationally. We will dance using a Japanese umbrella (wagasa or Asian umbrella) and fan veils.

The very first Wa Fusion choreography I created in 2012 was to “MATSURI” I have taught it in workshops in Japan and overseas, and many students and dancers have performed it. It is a deeply cherished piece.

The album Kojiki, released in 1990, was Kitaro’s musical interpretation of Japan’s Kojiki mythology through his unique cosmic worldview. It became a global hit. I attended several of his concerts in Singapore and was deeply moved watching him perform before enthusiastic audiences.

“MATSURI ” especially evokes the energetic celebration before the Heavenly Rock Cave, where the gods rejoice through the dance and song of Ame-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto.

This term, I will renew the choreography into a 2026 version. Please look forward to it!

Please prepare a Japanese umbrella (wagasa or Asian umbrella) and fan veils.

The new term begins Wednesday, 2/25.

For the first time in a while, we will also hold a flea market for belly dancers!

On Saturday, 3/21, after the studio lesson, we will gather in my home party room. Enjoy champagne and sandwiches while browsing. Bring any belly dance wear or costumes you no longer use. Let’s exchange, sell at friendly prices, and simply enjoy chatting together. I will also bring treasures from the NADIA closet at special prices!

This is a closed event for current term students only. Details will be sent separately.

NADIA’s studio lessons continue to receive wonderful feedback.

The studio is located in central Singapore, just one bus stop from Orchard Road. Although it is in the city, the space feels like stepping into a quiet forest—surrounded by greenery with a beautiful pool view. It is a serene and inspiring environment where you can enjoy a truly happy belly dance experience.

Children are welcome to join.
Reservation required. Women only. Small group setting (approximately 10 students).

No registration fee.
Trial lessons and drop-ins are available.

Classes are held on Fridays & Saturdays from 11am, with two sessions:
